Great to see so much being written up on sustainability (Feature, QS News, 28 July).
You might be interested to know that Faithful+Gould also has a dedicated sustainability team that has been operating for over five years, working for developers, government departments (developing policy), on PPP projects as both consortia and as technical advisors.
In our experience the QS needs to be well integrated into the design team at an early enough stage for sustainability to have its greatest impact. We have proved over the years that much of sustainability need not cost more. At the basic level our cost models are able to identify which BREEAM points come for free, which are low, medium and high cost. This is methodology that we have been using for years.
