I was disappointed with your article on The People’s £50 Million Lottery Giveaway (‘...in pictures’, January 2008).

The reference to the Sustrans’ Connect 2 project as merely ‘a cycle path project’ fails to portray the scale of this and the importance the public have attached to it.

The project comprises the building of 79 schemes, which will involve the construction of 58 new bridges and one viaduct, the refurbishment of 54 existing bridges and six viaducts and three tunnels, including one ferry.

Your final comment is interesting regarding the position of construction on the public’s agenda. This implies that you feel the Connect2 project will not involve any construction in its delivery. Which industry would you propose that Sustrans approach regarding the construction of the required bridges?

I work as a volunteer ranger for sustrans and believe in the benefits that more walking and cycling will bring to our communities.
