The Local Government Ombudsman has found Leeds council guilty of “maladministration causing injustice” for a “lack of contingency planning and delay” after it took two years to repair three council houses damaged after a gas explosion.
The council agreed to pay £2000 in compensation to a female resident living opposite the houses for “trouble and distress” caused by lobbying the council to take action.
In a separate ombudsman hearing, Bolton council has paid £1800 to a male resident.
The resident’s flat was being demolished, and the council failed to tell him when he moved out that the compensation he was entitled to would double in the next month.
The amount awarded makes up the difference.
