The announcement that London is to host the 2012 Olympic Games has been greeted with glee by the UK construction industry.
And, for one firm from Scotland, it has prompted an expansion programme aimed at muscling in on the English market.
Glasgow-based WWW Electrical Contractors anticipates that the forthcoming surge of construction activity in and around London will create opportunities for it to establish an office in the south east of England. This will be the first step in a five-year plan that will see the contractor opening a network of English offices.
The assault on the capital will be led by Scott Wilson, with the opening of the first English office at the turn of the year. Wilson said: “The Olympics presents us with a tremendous opportunity to explore and develop new markets in London and throughout the south of England. While we are not dependent on winning Olympics work, our aim is to pick up a range of projects arising from spin-offs from the Olympics, such as hotel refurbishments and other leisure projects.”
