9:35AM Plans for Stratford upgrade and park remediation get sign-off in first round of planning applications

The Olympic Delivery Authority’s Planning Committee has granted approval for three applications. It claimed the approvals came one month ahead of programme.

The applications include Transport for London’s plan for Stratford Station to have a new mezzanine gateline extension above the Jubilee line/existing North London Line platforms and to build a new westbound platform for the Central Line.

The ODA said both were “key parts of the upgrade works required to improve capacity at the station in the run up to 2012”. Works at Stratford Station will start early in 2007 and finish by the end of 2010.

The Planning Committee has also signed off two joint applications from the London Development Agency and ODA to start early site remediation on parts of the Olympic Park. The applications require the closure of Quatermile Lane and parts of Carpenters Road and Marshgate Lane.

Demolition and remediation will begin in December and continue into mid 2008. The closure of Quarter Mile Lane is planned for early 2007 while the parts of Carpenters Road and Marshgate Lane are expected to close beginning in July 2007.

The applications are the first that were made since the Committee was granted its powers in September 2006. The Committee met on 14 November at the East London Centre to hear three planning applications.

ODA chief executive David Higgins said: “This means we have achieved planning approval for this land remediation a month ahead of programme. We are on track and continuing to hit our milestones. I am confident we will deliver an exceptional Games and a lasting regeneration legacy for East London”.

The planning applications granted by the ODA Planning Committee are:

1. Earthworks & Remediation Construction Zone 7A including Closure of Quartermile Lane (Planning Application 06/90001/FUMODA)

2. Earthworks & Remediation Construction Zone 1B including Closure of Carpenters Road and Marshgate Lane (Planning Application 06/90002/FUMODA)

3. Stratford Regional Station Upgrade (Planning Application 06/90003/FUMODA)
