ADT has won a major contract to install an integrated safety and security solution for the Arena at The O 2 – formerly the Millennium Dome – set to open next year as a world class entertainment destination.
The deal was signed with the owners and operators, Anschutz Entertainment Group and sees ADT working with main contractor Sir Robert McAlpine. ADT will supply integrated systems to protect concert goers and sports fans. This will include CCTV, access control, fire detection and PA/voice alarm systems worth an estimated £3 million over the next year. Adrian Casey, Managing Director of ADT Europe and South Africa said it was one of the largest and most prestigious entertainment venue contracts that ADT had won.
The centrepiece will be an indoor Arena for up to 23,000 fans that will host at least 150 music, sports and entertainment events in its first year. There will be a music club, cinema multiplex and exhibition space, as well as bars and restaurants.
The security will include 120 CCTV cameras and more than 30 door entry points. The O 2 Arena security team will be able to view the entire site on multiple screens and monitor activity through a network of digital video management systems. The fire detection system consists of over 900 smoke detectors, 50 call points, more than 5,500 metres of pipe and eight networked control panels.
Clive Hunter, ADT account director, leisure, said: "The key to our success will be working in co-operation with over 100 contractors on site. To meet the project deadlines, over 13,500 hours will be worked by ADT engineers over the next 12 months."
Installation phase will be complete in May 2007 for testing and commissioning prior to July opening.
