Hawkins Brown has received the go-ahead for a regional arts centre devoted solely to the promotion of Black and South Asian arts.

The New Art Exchange in Nottingham will be a new £3.7m building, funded by Arts Council England.

The four-storey building will provide opportunities for community focused activities and include workshops, a gallery, studios, rehearsal space and facilities for an artist in residence.

The scheme will be on George Boulevard, in Hyson Green, near the city centre. It is hoped the new building will improve the aesthetics of the deprived district of the city.

The QS on the project is Davis Langdon, the structural engineer is Price & Myers and the PM is to be announced.

Work begins on site in August of this year and will open in 2007.
