There is nothing new under the sun. After a long life spent in further education, industrial training and training in a professional capacity, it never ceases to amaze me when someone cries “eureka” before propagating an old policy (‘The New Seats of Learning’, CM, February 2004, p10).

Years ago when with the CITB, I was privileged to be involved with the excellent training facilities of Tarmac Construction Ltd, when Stan Pickstock, assisted by Harold Canning, managed well-designed and expertly implemented management training and development at Construction House in Wolverhampton. In that centre of excellence, practitioners trained in communication skills with lecturers, instructors and mentors.
