Far be it from me to decry the good work being done by John McHale, the chief executive of Knowsley Housing Trust (HT 18 June, page 23). However I have photographic evidence that his chivalry, reported in Social Animal, was extended to a male resident of Knowsley, not easily confused with a "damsel in distress".

On a more serious note, his day back "on the tools" is part of a wider programme to bring senior staff into direct contact with our residents. Although we aim for excellent customer service with courtesy, we have not made gallantry compulsory (yet).
