The NICEIC Group is to operate a range of Competent Person schemes to allow contractors to self-certify notifiable work under parts F, G, J, L and P of the Building Regulations.

The group, which has 20 000 firms registered on its scheme for electrical installations, is to introduce schemes for ventilation, plumbing, combustion appliances and fuel storage, and conservation of fuel and power.

The Building Regulations Advisory Committee has confirmed that the NICEIC’s application meets the criteria set by the Department for Communities and Local Government. NICEIC director general, Jim Speirs, said: “Our experience means that we are ideally placed to offer the complete solution to a wider contractor base, saving on administration time and money. Multi-disciplinary contractors wishing to join more than one scheme will be accommodated in a single assessment process. Once accredited, our streamlined notification process will offer further time saving.”
