Project manager HPR has now installed central piers of £113m bridge
These are the newest images of Zaha Hadid’s £113m Sheikh Zayed Bridge, currently under construction in Abu Dhabi.
The central piers of the 8km bridge, which will link Abu Dhabi Island with the rest of the municipality, have now been installed. The concrete structures were built within cofferdams, and made from cellular prestressed concrete so that Hadid’s signature geometric curves could be realised. The structural design and project management has been overseen by UK-based capital project consultant HPR, while the contractor is Archirodon Construction.
Vardy Jones, director of HPR’s infrastructure sector, said: “The Sheikh Zayed Bridge is a major initiative and will be a substantial achievement when complete. It will be an iconic addition to the region’s infrastructure.”
The 850m bridge is due for completion before the end of 2009.
