Boost in UK and international order book at WYG undertakes recruitment drive

WYG has drafted in Amec director Iain Clarkson as its new CFO as the engineer posted strong results, including a 50% jump in its UK order book.

In the year to March 2016 the firm posted a 23% jump in pre-tax profit to £7m, up from £5.7m the previous year.

UK revenue increased by 15% to £96.3m, up from £83.9m, driven by strong demand for services in its planning and infrastructure markets as well as a series of bolt-on acquisitions. The firm was also bullish over the uncertainty surrounding the forthcoming EU referendum, prediting that it would not be “unduly affected” by the outcome.

WYG’s UK order book rose to £79.5m, up from £53m, while its overseas orders rose by a third to £70.6m.

Clarkson joins from Amec Foster Wheeler, where he was finance director of its Clean Energy Europe Business.

The hire is part of a recruitment drive by WYG to meet its growing workload.

WYG chief executive Paul Hamer (pictured) said: “Having had a very strong finish to the year, we are seeing buoyant conditions across all three of our regions driving continued strong momentum into the new financial year.”
