Two men die after falling from ladders while working on Forth bridge and Tay rail bridge
Two workers have died after falls from the Forth Bridge and the Tay Rail Bridge, in unrelated incidents last night and this morning.
One man died at around 6.40am this morning after falling while working on the Tay Rail Bridge.
According to British Transport Police, the man, described as "a contractor", fell from a ladder onto a ledge under the bridge, and died at the scene.
And at about 9pm last night a maintenance worker on the Forth Bridge was pronounced dead after a 150ft fall from a ladder.
He is believed to have been working on the north side of the bridge when he fell onto scaffolding below the railway tracks.
Paramedics and lifeboats were summoned but the man died at the scene.
Inquiries are in progress into the circumstances of the death at the Tay Rail Bridge are ongoing.
British Transport Police said a report would be sent to the local procurator fiscal.
Rail services across the Tay Bridge, and services across the Forth Bridge, are unaffected by the incidents.
