Engineer Whitbybird and architect Cooper Cromar are turning Glasgow landmark into £32m luxury offices

Engineering firm Whitbybird, and architect Cooper Cromar have begun work on number one George Square in Glasgow. The £32m construction scheme will see the A-listed Victorian building, and former post office, redeveloped into luxury office space.

The project, rebranded G1 George Square, involves a complete reconfiguration of the building behind the retained iconic façade and the a glass roof extension. G1 will provide130,000 ft sq of office space.

Whitbybird project director Bill Ritchie said: “This is a vitally important site in the continued regeneration and development of Glasgow.”

Whitbybird’s fire engineers SAFE are working with the design team on the project and it aims to ensure that the project receives a 'very good' BREEAM rating.

The project is being developed jointly by HF Developments and AWG Property. Completion date is expected to be in 2008.
