Scheme due to be used by visitors to nearby arena being built by McAlpine
Willmott Dixon has signed the main contract on a £23m multi-storey car park in Gateshead that will be used by visitors to a £260m arena being built by Sir Robert McAlpine.
Willmott Dixon will start next week on the Ryder Architecture-designed scheme in the area’s Baltic Quarter.
As well as visitors to the 12,500-seat Gateshead Quayside arena, the 1,000-space car park will also be available to guests of a hotel and conference centre also going up at the arena site.
The car park scheme, which client Gateshead council has procured through the Scape framework, is due to complete in November 2022.
The 10-storey car park will be the twelfth project the contractor has built for the council following the completion of a £13m Riga office development last year, also located in the Baltic Quarter.
McAlpine’s arena scheme is due to finish in 2023.
