The Lewis building was originally a department store
Willmott Dixon has been appointed by Legal & General to fit-out its latest project in Birmingham.
The £18m fit out is for 114,000 sq ft of grade A office space at the Lewis Building, originally built as a department store in the 1920s by 19th Century philanthropist David Lewis. The building is due for completion in July 2017.
Willmott Dixon is also building Birmingham University’s £31m new campus building and a new 61,350 sq ft college for HS2 engineers for Birmingham City Council and HS2 Ltd to “feed” into the development of the HS2 high-speed rail line between London and Birmingham.
Tom Williams, senior asset manager, Legal & General Property, said: “With an outstanding track record of renovating historic and listed buildings such as Alexandra Palace, we are exceedingly confident that Willmott Dixon will deliver our vision for a 21st Century workplace in the heart of Birmingham. We are taking an underinvested asset and creating a truly landmark location that seamlessly blends a contemporary workplace with the building’s historic legacy.”
