Work to start later this month
Willmott Dixon has served up a win with a deal to build a new complex next door to the Wimbledon home of the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
The Somerset Road project (pictured) will see the contractor demolish the existing indoor courts and replace them with a facility that will be used by both tennis club members as well as competitors during Wimbledon fortnight.
Work, which is understood to be worth around £70m, includes building 12 new tennis courts and club house facilities.
It also includes a single-storey underground car park that will be used as courtesy car parking during the Wimbledon event.
Work will start this month and is due to finish in October 2021.
The firm beat Sir Robert McAlpine, the contractor behind the £70m redevelopment of Wimbledon’s No 1 Court.
