City's architects and engineers are in the dark about who is behind this iconic bridge design
A new bridge across Dubai Creek has been unveiled – but the city's architects and engineers are in the dark as to who came up with the signature design.
The “Dubai Smile” bridge was unveiled last week by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The 810m dirham (£147m) bridge will be the seventh across Dubai Creek, located near the Wonderland Park and Dubai Creek Park.
The iconic design was chosen from an international competition and images have been released, but the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has not revealed which team of engineers or architects is behind the design.
FXFOWLE Architects, the US architect behind the RTA's Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed bridge over the same creek, said it was not one of theirs.
A spokesperson for Atkins, lead designer of RTA's Dubai Metro Red and Green lines, said: “It isn't one of ours. To be honest, we've been trying to find out whose it is. Will you let us know if you find out?”
Readers' educated guesses (or informed tip-offs) would be much appreciated.
