Retail centre marks milestone in £1.45bn development as steel core is finished
Westfield Stratford City has marked a milestone in the £1.45bn development with the completion of the steelwork for the retail centre.
The final piece of the 40,000 tonnes of steel used in the core retail build has been erected on the 1.9 million ft² site.
Keith Whitmore, director of design and construction at Westfield, said: “We’ve stayed on programme despite some challenging weather conditions recently and now the steelwork is complete we will soon have the envelope water-tight with the glazing and cladding due to be completed in the coming weeks.”
The development is planned to open next year.
