The planning inspectorate has rejected proposals to build the Middle Quinton eco-town in Stratford-upon-Avon

The report, published after an examination in public into the West Midlands’ regional spatial strategy, found that the 6,000-home settlement, which is backed by property companies St Modwen and Bird Group, would be of “very doubtful sustainability”, as it was located more than than nine kilometres from Stratford-upon-Avon and would therefore rely on private transport.

A spokesperson for the communities department said that no final decision on Middle Quinton’s future had been taken and that assessments were continuing.

She said: “We have always said any proposals for eco-towns will need to go through the local planning process and this continues to be the case.”
