Built in 1868 the Farmiloe Building has featured several movies, including in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy and Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes.
Wates is to undertake the £25m revamp of the grade II listed Farmiloe Building in Clerkenwell, London.
The renovation of the former home of lead and glass merchants George Farmiloe & Sons on behalf of Standard Life Investments Pooled Property Pension Fund is expected to complete in autumn 2019.
Designed to provide new speculative office space with ground floor retail units, an adjoining building will also be constructed after the removal of several 1930s and 1950s extensions.
Phil Shortman, managing director of Wates Construction London, said: “We are now in the process of engaging our local supply chain partners to ensure we deliver training and employment opportunities to local people as part of our commitment to providing a socioeconomic legacy, beyond our construction remit.”
