Cooke has been involved in major regional projects such as Liverpool Arena and the Trafford Centre

Wates has appointed a former Balfour Beatty national framework director as its new regional director for the North West, as the firm sets its sights on £150m of business in the region by 2025.

Sarah Cooke spent two years at the UK’s biggest contractor and was responsible for its successful re-procurement of the Scape civils framework, the Crown Commercial Services (CCS) framework and the Midlands Highways Alliance.

Sarah Cooke, Wates’ new regional director for the North West

Cooke began her career on-site delivering complex projects such as Liverpool Arena and the Trafford Centre and has worked at tier one contractors including Morgan Sindall, Lendlease and Galliford Try in her more than two decades in the industry.

At Wates, she will be responsible for leading operations in the North West and contributing to the growth of the whole northern region by strengthening partnerships with major frameworks including the CCS and Procure North West.

She replaces Dave Savile, who was appointed managing director for the North earlier this year.

Saville said Cooke’s appointment would support Wates in reaching its turnover goal for the region “as we look to expand the sectors we work in and increase our pipeline with national organisations like the NHS and Ministry of Justice”.

Wates is currently delivering a number of major projects in the north, including multiple schemes with developer MEPC, schools for independent provider Star Academy and projects for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Services.
