Leicester council has pledged to press ahead with the centre at a cost of £48m, £4m more than previous estimates and nearly double the original £26m price tag. The theatre will have a 750-seat main auditorium and a 350-seat second room, divided by acoustic curtains that can be moved to create different spaces. The bulldozers moved in this week and the centre is due to open by September 2007.
