Contractor appointed to build headquarters for new motorsport series
Contractor Vinci Construction UK has won the contract to build the Donington headquarters for the FIA’s new Formula E racing series.
The racing series will feature single seater electric racing cars capable of 140mph.
The HQ will provide facilities for each of the ten Formula E teams, together with offices, stores and workshops for Formula E’s own operational staff.
Engineer Pick Everard is also working on the scheme.
The facilities will be design to a BREEAM Very Good standard of sustainable construction.
Alejandro Agag, chief executive of Formula E, said: “The British motorsport industry is regarded as the best in the world so it was an easy decision for us to be based in the UK and our new facilities at Donington Park provide the perfect central location for operating the FIA Formula E Championship.
“Being in the ‘Motorsport Valley’ also means we can take advantage of the technology and skills all around us, as we have already done through McLaren and Williams.”
The headquarters is due to complete by the end of April with the first teams moving in on 1 May. The racing series starts in Beijing in September.
