Contractor beats rivals including Balfour Beatty and Costain to land £30m job
Vinci has won the £30m contract for the last remaining tunnel portal for London’s Crossrail, at Victoria Dock.
Crossrail today announced that the firm had beaten off competition from Balfour Beatty, Costain, Morgan Sindall and a joint venture between Bam Nuttall and Kier to land the job. Vinci will now carry out the work at the C340 portal, the last of five tunnel portals constructed as part of the rail link - Royal Oak, Pudding Mill Lane, North Woolwich, Plumstead and Victoria Dock.
Andy Mitchell, Crossrail programme director said: “Crossrail has now awarded the last remaining tunnel portal contract. Construction of Royal Oak Portal was completed ahead of schedule last year.
“Main construction of the portals at Pudding Mill Lane and Plumstead are now underway. Construction of the North Woolwich portal will begin in May 2012 with Victoria Dock portal commencing in autumn 2012.”
