Contractor will overhaul the transport hub in Greater Manchester
Vinci Construction has landed the contract to build a new transport interchange in Ashton-under-Lyne in Greater Manchester.
The contractor secured the job from Transport for Greater Manchester with a £12.9m bid – £2.1m less than the job’s original £15m price tag.
Price made up 30% of the award criteria.
Vinci, who beat four other bidders, will be responsible for an overhaul that will modernise the current Ashton bus station.
The new interchange will have a covered concourse, seated waiting area, a ticket and information outlet and retail facilities.
There will also be secure cycle parking with a cycle hub and improved taxi facilities.
The development is being funded by central government through the Greater Manchester Local Growth Deal programme.
The new interchange is expected to open in spring 2020.
