Founder says he will now focus on delivering 2,200 Drakelow Park development

UK groundworks specialist Roger Bullivant is to be sold to Vinci company Soletanche Bachy.

Its eponymous founder told the Burton Mail that the multi-million pound sale would safeguard the future of the South Derbyshire firm, which employees 797.

Bullivant said that he would now focus on his role as chairman of Drakelow Developments, which is behind a 2,200-home scheme at Drakelow Park.

He said he made the decision to sell “after much deliberation” and stressed the decision had “not been taken lightly”.

Last month the company revealed that exposure to the recession-hit housing sector turnover had sliced turnover by 50% since 2008. The company shrank its workforce by 300 staff over the same period.

According to Building’s annual survey of specialists Soletanche Bachy is the biggest ground engineer in the UK- Roger Bullivant was second on the list.
