Wall of sand and dust 100m high chokes Riyadh, in worst sandstorm for a decade
A sandstorm hit Riyadh yesterday, choking the city with dust and plunging it into darkness at around 10am. A wall of sand over 100m high washed over Saudi Arabia like a tidal wave. It affected most of the country and neighbouring Kuwait. This video shows the dust smothering low- and high-rise buildings alike in Riyadh. The city's airport was closed but has now reopened. It was the worst sandstorm Saudi Arabia had seen for a decade.
