Property developer to redevelop 2ha former tannery Morlands site
Property developer Urban Splash has won a contract to develop 2ha of land in Glastonbury as part of the region's development scheme.
Working in partnership with the South West of England Regional Development Agency, the plan is to create 85,000 sq ft of versatile, mixed-use commercial space on the former tannery Morlands site.
Commenting on the plans James Howard, company associate director, said: “Outline designs may change in detail as we undertake further consultation and move forward to the next planning phase but the core concept of creating a vibrant and versatile business hub is central to our ideas.”
The plans show the listed former glove and rug factories as well as the Bauhaus being refurbished to create office accommodation, with new modern structures grouped around some of the old buildings.
Howard added: “The project is partly about bringing the Morlands site back to life and partly about providing Glastonbury with the business accommodation needed to make a real contribution to the town’s future prosperity.”
The scheme is expected to be submitted for planning approval in the summer of 2007.
