Urban Splash has appointed architect Allford Hall Monaghan Morris to design the second hotel in its emerging hospitality division.

It is understood that “Cincinatti”, an art deco office scheme in the north-east of Birmingham, will be revamped by Urban Splash as a hotel-led mixed-use development covering seven acres.

Cincinatti would signal the start of an expansion in its hotels division.

Urban Splash announced its intention to break into the hotel market in December 2004, with plans for the redevelopment of the Midland Hotel in Morecambe. The Midland, designed by Union North and built by Urban Splash Build, is due to open in June.

Sources close to Urban Splash said it has earmarked several sites across the country for a full roll-out of the hotel division after the opening of the Midland.

A spokesperson for Urban Splash said: “Pending planning approval, there could potentially be an Urban Splash hotel there at the Cincinnati. We are working with AHMM on the plans.”
