Shepherd Construction picks up deal for halls of residence and staff facilities

The University of Warwick has awarded a £17m design and build contract to Shepherd Construction.

The contract will see Shepherd Construction build a new hall of residence and ancillary facilities for staff and associated service areas within a 61-week build programme.

Work is due to start on-site in early July and the development is expected to achieve a BREEAM excellent and EPC A rating.

The new accommodation will provide around 500 additional student bedrooms to the 5,778 rooms already on campus. In addition, the development will provide a resident warden’s house, one deputy warden’s flat and 11 residential tutors’ flats, together with associated service and amenity areas.

Peter Millett, Shepherd Construction’s West Division managing director commented: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract as it underlines our growing strength in the university sector. We look forward to working with the University of Warwick over the coming months.”

The scheme was designed by Warwick-based architect Robothams.

Shepherd Construction is also currently on-site with the delivery of student accommodation at Arch Bar and Marlborough Street in Manchester; a new research facility on behalf of the University of Liverpool; and a library refurbishment for the University of York.
