The site of a former paper mill will be turned into 310 new homes
Maidstone council has given the go-ahead to developer U+I’s £100m plans to build 310 new homes on the site of a former paper mill in the Kent town.
Designed by Guy Hollaway Architects the scheme, which is located adjacent to the Springfield roundabout on Royal Engineers Road, is comprised of 310 new homes spread over a range of buildings rising up to 18-storeys in height.
U+I said it anticipated completing the build in the next 2-3 years and that 220 of the 310 units will be delivered as Build to Rent or speculative homes for sale. The development will also feature a club lounge and rooftop allotments.
Richard Upton, deputy chief executive of U+I, said: “Maidstone is famous for its paper mills and thread twisting and is an exceptional and relatively affordable place to live. U+I has woven the history of this county town into the architecture and landscape throughout the proposal.
“The plans will bring forward a high quality residential-led scheme, which with the inclusion of a build to rent element, providing local residents with greater choice.”
