Union is looking into reports that disgruntled workers have set fire to site in Reading in protest over payment problems
Construction union UCATT is investigating reports that workers started a fire on a site in Reading this morning in protest at payment problems.
Workers for a subcontractor employed by Gilmac Construction Services on a Southern Housing Group project in Basingstoke Road, Reading, have complained to union officials that Gilmac has not paid the subcontractor, understood to be Pyramid Brickwork, for nine weeks.
The union has received unconfirmed reports that some workers started a fire on the site this morning in protest at their treatment. London regional officer Jerry Swain is investigating the claims.
