Limitless awards contract for first phase of earthworks along 75km Dubai waterway
A contract for the £6bn Arabian Canal project in Dubai has been agreed between Tristar Transport and Contracting, and Limitless.
The contract is for the first phase of earthworks which will involve the removal of more than 200 million cubic metres of earth, to be re-used in the formation of landscapes, including valleys and hills up to 200 metres high. These will stretch for 9km, following the route of the waterway.
Work on phase one will begin this week, with excavation and land reforming scheduled for completion in three years. Abu Dhabi-based Tristar is one of 10 local and international companies who were considered for the work.
Mott MacDonald will be the geotechnical engineer on the project, and Faithful and Gould will be the cost consultant.
Limitless is also masterplanning a US$50bn, 14,000ha waterfront city to be built along the 30km inland stretch of the canal.
Phase one of the proposed development will cover 2,200ha and accommodate 600,000 people.
