The Vauxhall Tower in Lambeth, south London, may finally be about to win planning approval.

Deputy prime minister John Prescott has ruled that the 50-storey, Broadway Malyan-designed design is acceptable, and has dismissed concerns about its proximity to Westminster – overruling a report from the planning inspectorate that raised concerns over affordable housing and height. The final decision will be postponed until 12 May while developer Berkeley St George submits a revised planning application.
