The Building Hall of Fame
On Wednesday 17 June 2006, a panel of 10 judges met at Mossimans restaurant in west London. Their task: to whittle down a longlist of 140 names, ranging from cabinet ministers to engineers, to the 40 that they believed had had the greatest, and most positive, impact on the built environment over the past 40 years. It was never going to be easy, but after three hours of discussion, debate and horsetrading, Building's permanent exhibition, the Hall of Fame, had its inaugural entrants …
The judges, chaired by Construction Industry Council chief executive Graham Watts, included representatives from housebuilding, contracting, developing, law, quantity surveying, journalism and architecture. Peter Murray, chairman of design and communications consultancy Wordsearch, will also curate the Hall of Fame exhibition.
