North East London project built by McClarens and designed by Collado Collins
Tesco has completed its first ever houses in London.
The 14 terraced houses, built by contractor McClarens and designed by architect Collado Collins, are the first of 94 affordable homes to be built by Tesco for the Islington and Shoreditch Housing Association (ISHA).
The development, in Highams Park in North East London, is also in cooperation with Waltham Forest Council and is the first phase of a wider 11 acre regeneration scheme that will eventually deliver 253 homes, 10 industrial units, and 10 retail units anchored by a 38,000 sq ft Tesco store due to open in mid November.
Jonathan Collins, partner at architects Collado Collins, said: “These new homes are the first step in delivering the wider regeneration of this area of Highams Park. The high quality of the housing reflects the overall scheme and what we believe will be the creation of a vibrant new residential area.”
Tony Fletcher, corporate affairs manager at Tesco, added: “Tesco’s investment in Highams Park is delivering high quality, affordable housing for the area.
“We hope that in the long-term, the completed scheme will attract additional businesses and investment, but this first phase of the regeneration is an important step to creating a new destination that will attract families and shoppers alike.”
