Sir Terry Farrell's practice beats off Foster, Gehry and SOM to masterplan 5ha slice of central Auckland
Terry Farrell & Partners has beaten off competition from Foster + Partners, Frank Gehry and SOM to masterplan a central district of Auckland, New Zealand.
The 5ha Newmarket site is in the centre of New Zealand's largest city, and will become a mixed-use neighbourhood built around a new train station. It is the UK architecture practice's first scheme in New Zealand.
The practice will undertake design work for client AMP Capital Investors over the next 10-12 years. A concept masterplan is expected to be released early next year.
Sir Terry Farrell said: “This exciting new city-centre development for Newmarket not only creates new high-quality public realm but will also act as a catalyst for high-quality future growth to the lands adjacent to the site, furthering Auckland's reputation as a world-class city.”
