Platform on 124th floor of world's tallest tower is suddenly shut over concerns about power supply
The Burj Khalifa’s observation deck was suddenly closed yesterday, only a month after the 828 metre tower in Dubai opened to the public.
It is understood that there were technical problems with the viewing platform, which is on the 124th floor of the Skidmore Owings & Merrill-designed building..
A spokesman for the tower, which was previously known as the Burj Dubai, said: “Technical issues with the power supply are being worked on by the main and subcontractors, and the public will be informed upon completion.”
Emaar, the developer of the tower, which is the world’s tallest, has so far not given a re-opening date.
The building was re-named, reportedly minutes before it opened, on 4 January swiftly after Sheikh Khalifa, UAE president and emir of Abu Dhabi, had agreed a bail out of Dubai’s endebted state-linked companies, including developer Nakheel, which is understood to owe money to UK construction industry firms.
