Ministry of Defence releases land at Shorncliffe Garrison in Folkestone
Taylor Wimpey has been appointed preferred developer to build 1,200 homes at a Ministry of Defence (MoD) barracks in Folkestone.
The MoD is reconfiguring the barracks – home to three brigades, two of which are Gurkha brigades – in order to release the land for development.
Taylor Wimpey will also deliver community sports facilities, an Army Cadet centre, public space and improved education facilities.
Shorncliffe Garrison will be relocated onto a “smaller more secure site”.
Peter Truscott, Taylor Wimpey south divisional chairman, said: “We are looking forward to working with Shepway District Council and DIO to create an exciting new community and deliver much needed new homes, supporting infrastructure and facilities to Folkestone.”
