Consultant will project manage expansion of huge Melbourne mall
Turner & Townsend has been appointed project manager on the £200m overhaul of a Melbourne shopping centre.
The consultant’s Austrlian arm, Turner & Townsend Thinc, will help client Vicinity Centres add 25,000 sq m of floor space to one of the southern hemisphere’s largest malls, Chadstone Shopping Centre.
The redevelopment will create a new entertainment precinct including a digital cinema complex with 13 screens and a revitalised west mall with 40 new retailers.
Approximately 570 stores will be housed in the centre following completion in mid-2017.
This is the second major shopping centre project picked up by the consultant over the last year, after winning the project manager role on the £380m expansion of Eastland Shopping Centre, also in Melbourne.
James Coffey, director at Turner & Townsend Thinc said: “Billions of dollars are being spent on major shopping centre redevelopment projects across Melbourne.
“Three of its flagship tenancies including H&M, Zara and Uniqlo, plus two mini major tenancies - Rebel and JBHiFi will be managed by our tenancy delivery team.”
