A sustainable urban drainage system, combining infiltration basins and a wetland pond constructed with Hydro’s Stormbloc, has been used to manage stormwater run-off for a 400-home development near Littlehampton.
The development for Bryant Homes Southern Counties, George Wimpey South West Thames and David Wilson Homes required a solution to overcome the lack of public surface water sewers or watercourses in the vicinity of the site. The solution uses Stormbloc infiltration technology, providing three underground basins and a fourth incorporating open water and reeds. Stormbloc is a modular system offering a 95% void ratio with load-bearing characteristics to support pedestrian and vehicle loading. It features accessibility channels and chambers for CCTV inspection and water jetting for ease of maintenance over its 50-year design life.
