43% of firms say industry lacks the necessary green skills

Almost half of construction employers believe the industry lacks the necessary green skills, according to a survey by CITB-ConstructionSkills.

43% of respondents in a poll of 1,450 construction employers identified sustainability as the industry’s main skills gap.

The survey also showed 39% of firms believe workers are not skilled enough in identifying potential new business and 43% believe employees have insufficient IT skills.

Mark Farrar, chief executive of CITB-ConstructionSkills, said: “The results clearly show that employers in the UK are aware of the challenges currently facing them and the wider industry.

“We are committed to helping the industry overcome any skills gaps, and to ensuring that our managers and leaders are among the best in the country.”
