Stock Woolstencroft-designed scheme for Telford Homes will overlook Olympic park
Icona, Telford Homes’ residential-led, mixed-use development overlooking the aquatic centre at the Olympic park, is about to reach completion.
Built on a brownfield site 300m from the Olympic stadium, the 249-home scheme designed by Stock Woolstencroft has been awarded a Silver Seal of Excellence at the NHBC’s Pride in the Job awards.
The development comprises three buildings, including an elliptical 18-storey tower, and inspiration for its brightly clad exterior is said to have come from the work of artist Donald Judd.
The external envelope of steel and glass balconies, aluminium panels and distinctive fins was prefabricated off site by Dutch firm Oskomera and installed without scaffolding. Prefabrication was also used for the bathrooms, manufactured by Gateway Pods.
Some 87 of the homes are affordable housing for East Homes, and are constructed using the same materials and style as the open market homes.
