Plans to provide retail spaces, office and resident accomodation
Plans for the redevelopment of a city centre site in St Albans have been given the go-ahead by the district’s Planning Referrals Committee.
MSMR Architects’ proposal includes Hertfordshire House car park, the NHS health centre and the redundant police station.
The scheme will create new pedestrian routes and public spaces and provide a mix of 20,000 ft2 of ground floor retail spaces, 30,000 ft2 of office accommodation and 86 residential apartments.
Within the overall masterplan, MSMR has already achieved consent to convert a redundant 1960s office building for re-use NHS accommodation at lower ground and ground floor and 21 apartments above.
Tony Williamson, director of Angle Property, the developer behind the scheme, said: “Regenerating this site will deliver much-needed homes along with commercial activity fronting an exciting new public space.”
