The cost of the project has reportedly soared from £400m to £800m
Tottenham Hotspur have released new images of its massive £800m stadium development adjacent to its current White Hart Lane home in London.
The cost of the stadium has reportedly soared from an earlier estimate of £400m seven years ago to £800m, due to inflation in part caused by the vote for Brexit.
The source of the reports is an email exchange between a Spurs fan and a club executive, posted on an online forum, although the higher cost estimate has not been officially confirmed by the club.
In an interview with Building in January the club said it was advancing plans to move to Wembley stadium to play its home games next season, with a final decision on when to leave its historic White Hart Lane ground due this spring.
Main contractor on the Populous-designed scheme is Mace, which has been working at the site since spring 2015.
Other firms working on the site include steelwork contractor Severfield, concrete firm Morrisroe and pre-cast firm, Antrim-based Macrete, while Buckingham Group will erect the new roof and German firm Schlaich Bergermann has been hired to carry out the roof engineering.
Demoltition of the main ground is expected to commence once Spurs completes its final game of the season against Manchester United on 13 May.
In September last year Building revealed that the football club had resorted to buying five cranes after it was unable to hire any.
