The new villages will be built to the south east of Weston-super-Mare

North Somerset council has awarded contracts worth £20m to Willmott Dixon, with an additional £13m contract going to Balfour Beatty.

The council is planning to build two new villages south-east of the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare, providing a total of 6,500 homes.

Willmott Dixon is building a foodworks innovation centre and a primary school for the new Weston villages.

Both are expected to finish in spring 2020.

Meanwhile, Balfour Beatty has won a £13m contract to build a new road to link the public sector land earmarked for development to the existing road network.

The firm is due to start on the North South Link next month and finish two years later in November 2020.
