Contractor to begin work on 33km of cable tunnels in London
Skanska has been awarded a £92m tunneling contract by Costain as part of a £200m programme to deliver a new network for National Grid in London.
The Swedish giant will be responsible for the construction of 33km of high-voltage electricity cable tunnels between Hackney and Willesden and between Kensal Green and Wimbledon in southwest London.
Work also includes the construction of access shafts and head houses for electrical equipment.
Skanska will commence work in 2011 and tunnelling will be completed by the end of 2014. The project with all associated works will be completed during 2018.
