Cambridge HQ for pharmaceutical giant boosts UK arm of Nordic construction firm

Construction giant Skanska has confirmed it has won the contract to build a £300m HQ for Astra Zeneca.

In a statement to the Swedish stock exchange Skanska said: “Skanska has won a contract for the construction management of a research and development center and corporate headquarters for AstraZeneca in the UK.”

The new Herzog & de Meuron-designed HQ will be located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and is expected to complete in 2017. Once complete the facility will be home to AstraZeneca’s research into cardiovascular and metabolic disease as well as the company’s largest centre for oncology research.

News of the contract win comes soon after Skanska UK announced a 6% rise in profits for 2014. Turnover at the UK subisdiary of the Nordic construction giant grew 22% in the past year to £1.3bn, with a profit margin of 3%.

The contract is will be included the order in the order bookings for Skanska UK in the first quarter of 2015.
