Skanska has been confirmed to build a £58m office block for developer Derwent London near Old Street Roundabout.

The firm, which completed the £46m Copyright building in Fitzrovia for Derwent two years ago, has been negotiating the deal, known as the Featherstone Building (pictured), for months.

Skanska’s building services arm, Rashleigh Weatherfoil, will carry out M&E work while its up-for-sale piling business, Cementation, will also be working on the job.

Cantillon is currently completing work to pull down the existing six-storey Monmouth House on Featherstone Street with piling work due to start this September.

The scheme, designed by Morris + Company, the practice set up by Joe Morris after Duggan Morris disbanded in 2017, is due to finish in November 2021.

Other firms working on the job include structural engineer Heyne Tillett Steel, engineer WSP and facade engineer Eckersley O’Callaghan. QS is Exigere with Blackburn & Co project manager.

The completed building will have an internal floor area of 125,000sq ft and a 90m-long façade at the front of the building. The scheme has been designed to look like four individual blocks that vary in both height and colour.

A £15m revamp of Old Street Roundabout itself began last month with Morgan Sindall carrying out the work which will see more cycle lanes and bus lanes added to a congestion blackspot. The roundabout island will be removed to form a new peninsula-style junction.
